AS IN: "Land Specialist"..."Specializing in Farm & Ranch"..."Neighborhood Specialist"
Most licensed professions require the licensee to obtain additional education and training in order to advertise themselves as a specialist or as specializing in. Something that would set them apart as having additional credentials and/or knowledge.
However, any real estate agent, straight out of real estate school, can decide that because this is the area they think would be the most beneficial and interesting, that they can have a picture made of themselves wearing a western hat and advertise themselves a "Land Specialist". And would you be surprised to find out that there is no law against it. There is however a "Code of Ethics", and they are walking a thin line when they do so. You see, real estate educational basics needed to obtain a license only covers Residential Real Estate. It doesn't even touch the surface of Land Sales or Commercial Sales.
As a result, real estate professionals who conduct land transactions need specialized knowledge. The National Association of REALTORS Code of Ethics requires it, the marketplace requires it.

Classes Completed: Land 101- Fundamentals of Land Brokerage...Site Selection...Land Investment Analysis...Transitional Land...Tax Deferred 1031 Exchanges...Tax Implications of Real Estate...Practical GPS/GIS Navigation. Additional classes: Eminent Domain, Then and Now (Texas Landowner's Bill of Rights)...Farm and Ranch Marketing. The ultimate goal having completed the courses and meeting strict requirements is to obtain the prestigious ALC Designation (Accredited Land Consultant). Steve is an ALC, and Andrea is an ALC.
As members of the REALTOR'S LAND INSTITUTE we are able to network with other like-minded professionals across the United States, some with international connections. We also participate in professional development programs through events such as the National Land Conferences, web seminars, chapter education programs and land-related sessions at the National Association of REALTORS National Meeting.
